Welcome to the hawos website -

Great to see that you are interested in grain mills and natural foods.
We would be glad to show you our mills and other products having everything to do with natural foods, since, when nutrition-conscious people switch over to whole foods, the decision for self-milled grain is among the first steps.

"Castrated" was the word my father used for shop-bought flour. And like him, I have always preferred to eat bread, cake and muesli made at home from freshly ground cereals. To us castrated flour was something tasteless, white which lasted forever and was not even suitable for mice.
In our family, having freshly ground flour every day was a matter of fact. After all, my great-grandfather Garbe came from Hameln which was not only famous for the Pied Piper, but also for its mills where he worked as a grain and feed merchant.
Some of my early holidays were spent near a windmill. I would sit and watch the miller for hours; listening to him talking about how mills are built and how they work.
Since 1977 I have been producing grain mills for household use. I am particularly fond of our hawos grain mills, each of which is of outstanding quality and has its own individually characteristic beauty.

I hope you will enjoy our site and learn a little more about mills and milling at home.
